Does whiteout delete the text under the box?

No. Whiteout draws a white rectangle on top of the page, so the content is hidden when viewed or printed but still exists in the file. Someone could select, search or copy it. For confidential data, use proper redaction, which removes the content itself.

Can I write on top of the white box?

Yes. Switch to Add Text to PDF in the editor, click on the white area and type. Both changes are saved into the same PDF.

Does it work on scanned documents?

Yes. Because whiteout just covers an area of the page, it works the same on scans, photos and digital PDFs.
