Translate a CV from German to English

Upload your Lebenslauf as Word or PDF and get an English CV with the same design, ready to adapt.

Accepted here: .pdf, .docx, .pptx, .xlsx and more. Up to 40 MB per file, 10 files at once.

A German Lebenslauf and an English CV or résumé follow different conventions, so translation is the first step, not the last. Translating the file keeps your design, which leaves you time for the part that matters to recruiters: making titles, grades and qualifications understandable abroad.

Translating a CV

  • Job titles and degrees are translated literally first. Replace them with the title an English-speaking recruiter would recognise, for example "Diplom-Ingenieur" as "Master's-level engineering degree (Diplom)".
  • German grades run the other way (1.0 is best). Add a short note or the conversion your target country uses rather than translating the number.
  • Upload the Word version if you have it. You can still edit the translated .docx, which is easier than fixing a PDF.

German to English

German packs meaning into long compound words and puts verbs at the end of the sentence, so a good German to English translation reorders sentences rather than translating word by word. English text is usually 10 to 20 % shorter, so the translated layout has room to spare.

How it works

  1. 1

    Drop the file

Upload the original file. The source language is detected automatically, so you don't have to pick it.

  2. 2

    Pick English

Choose English as the target. You can add more target languages and get one translated file per language.

  3. 3

    Download the same file type

You get the same file type back with the layout kept, ready to open in the program you used before.

What happens to your file

noll is built for documents you would not paste into a free online translator. Files are processed in EU data centres, never used to train models and permanently deleted 30 minutes after the translation finishes, or as soon as you delete them yourself. There is no document history to leak later.

How your data is handled

Machine translation, not a certified translation

noll gives you an accurate working translation fast. If an authority, court or university demands a certified or sworn translation, you still need a sworn human translator; our output is a good draft to hand them.

Pricing

Translation is billed by the page. See the current plans before you upload a large batch.

Frequently asked questions

Should I keep the photo and date of birth?

For UK and US applications, usually not: recruiters there expect a CV without photo, birth date or marital status. Remove them in the translated file.

How do I translate German grades?

Don't translate the number. Keep it and add the scale ("1.3 on a 1.0 to 5.0 scale, 1.0 is best") or the conversion your target country uses.

How are German job titles and degrees translated?

Literally at first. Replace titles like "Diplom-Kaufmann" or "Ausbildung" with the closest equivalent recruiters know, such as "Master's-level degree in business" or "vocational training".

Word or PDF?

Word, if you have it. You will almost certainly edit the English version, and a .docx is easier to change than a PDF.
